The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
The research technician will work in the group of Rob Meijers for the maintenance of eukaryotic expression systems. The group is focussed on cell surface receptors involved in the immune and nervous system. The post will involve the production of medically relevant proteins for structural biology, the maintenance of lab equipment and the support of other members of the lab.
Main tasks of the laboratory technician are:
- To maintain the cell culture facilities and express proteins from eukaryotic cells
- Support lab members in protein purification and characterization
- To be involved in day-to-day lab management including purchasing.
- To keep track and manage laboratory supplies.
- To be responsible for equipment maintenance and repairs.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a bachelor degree in a relevant field (biology or related disciplines). Working experience in molecular biology and biochemistry is required. Project management experience, excellent communication skills and the ability to supervise and collaborate with other research teams are essential. Good knowledge of desktop software applications and fluency in English is mandatory, German language skills are desirable.
