The -Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. You can find more information at

The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a 2-year Postdoc Position (m/f) in Benthic-pelagic Ecosystem Modelling.

Shelf and coastal seas display an extremely rich ecosystem dynamics. The objective of the position is to improve understanding of the strong coupling between pelagic and benthic processes in coastal seas with focus on aspects. Using a trait-based modeling approach, changing community structure and diversity of benthic and pelagic organisms should be analyzed, for improving hindcast or scenario simulations of coastal ecosystem dynamics.
The successful candidate will apply and further develop a trait-based, adaptive model for benthic-pelagic ecosystems. She/he will integrate existing high resolution monitoring data for the southern North Sea within a modular framework (

We seek a candidate with a proven expertise in modelling, preferably in or biogeochemistry. Profound programming and strong writing skills are desired. Applicants with a PhD in sciences, oceanography, or related disciplines in natural sciences or , are particularly encouraged to apply.

The department of Ecosystem Modelling at the Institute for Coastal Research hosts an interdisciplinary group of research scientists ( The group participates in national and international projects and promotes the development of both modular and traitbased models.
