General Information:The Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, MO will be offering an NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates summer program in 2016. Ten students will participate in a ten-week program that will include the conduct of an independent research project, with guidance from a staff mentor, as well as educational seminars, discussion sessions, and field trips. Available research projects deal with subjects including taxonomy, speciation, , conservation biology, , biodiversity modeling, crop development, ethnobotany, and climate change. Further information about participating mentors and projects is posted on the website. Participating students will receive a weekly stipend as well as food and housing.
Qualifications/Requirements:Eligible students are undergraduates who are returning to school after the program (hence, not graduating seniors). Prior experience with botanical or , from coursework or other activities, is preferred, with specific desired skills depending upon the research project(s) of interest. Students from institutions with limited research infrastructure and from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply. Participating students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Responsibilities:Responsibilities include full-time participation in REU program activities, including group educational sessions and completion of an independent research project with the guidance of an individual mentor.
