SALARY RANGE: £25,251 – £28,401

 The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow possesses a large internationally rated Engineering Faculty with a proud history of successful joint ventures with industrial and enterprise partners. As part of the University’s strategic development the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) has been established near Glasgow’s International Airport. The AFRC is the embodiment of a £30 million collaborative investment by Industrial, Academic and Government partners seeking to establish a world-leading research facility for forging and forming technologies.

 The AFRC are seeking to appoint a Technician to support the operation of specialised equipment within its workshops and laboratories. You will be primarily responsible for the set-up, operation and maintenance of press and machine shop equipment used in support of the AFRC’s research programmes.

Educated to a minimum of HNC/HND level, or equivalent; or with relevant work experience, you will have an ability to manage, operate and maintain a workshop environment. You will have experience of working independently, with minimum supervision, and have appropriate training in health and safety and relevant equipment operation. You will also have direct knowledge and expertise in press and machine shop equipment operation and maintenance, and relevant expertise in at least one of the following fields – metrology (including CMM set up); automation/robotics; CAD CAM. You will have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact with a range of stakeholders, from industry and academia.

 Experience of supporting production, and research and development manufacturing requirements is highly desirable, as is experience of supervising a research laboratory in an academic or industrial context. Knowledge and experience of forming and forging processes are also desirable.
