Research Director, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Canada and considered one of the top 5 in the world. It is home to world-leading scientists and clinicians that have made significant discoveries in cancer biology and implemented practice changing clinical trials. Princess Margaret is home to leading basic, translational and clinical research programs that constitute an annual research budget of over $170M and over 1200 annual publications from 65 appointed scientists and senior scientists and nearly 400 academic clinicians. The Princess Margaret has established thematic research programs in Stem Cells, Immune Therapy, Genomics/Epigenetics/Computational Biology, Tumour Microenvironment/Molecular Imaging, and in Cell Signalling/Proteomics/Structural Biology and Drug Development. These research themes occur across a large number of cancer site based translational research programs to rapidly translate discoveries into clinical practice through leading early and late phase clinical trial programs. The Princess Margaret is part of the University Health Network and works together with Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, TECHNA, and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute as part of the larger research mission at UHN. All of the faculty at Princess Margaret are appointed at the University of Toronto and serve as hosts to a vibrant graduate student community.
We are looking for a world leading cancer researcher who is a strategic thinker and a visionary leader to become the next Research Director of the Princess Margaret. The Director will have an extraordinary opportunity to set the vision for the future of research at the Princess Margaret and to build an environment that fosters and incentivizes high impact, creative and collaborative research. This includes significant opportunities for recruitment and investment in strategic research programs. The Director will be responsible for developing research priorities and will work closely with other senior medical and research leaders to translate these plans into reality. The Director also serves a critical role linking research priorities to clinical and educational/training activities at the Princess Margaret.
Applicants should possess outstanding cancer research expertise in one or more strategic areas of the Princess Margaret and will bring a broad vision for cancer research globally, from basic science to clinical application. They will possess leadership experience and a desire to become a global leader within a large complex research environment. They will also demonstrate an ability to steward significant financial resources and the ability to identify, recruit and retain world-class talent.
