Research Worker

Applications are invited for a Research Worker post on the Medical Research Council funded Environmental-Risk (E-risk) Longitudinal Twin Study, which follows 2232 twins from birth in 1994 to age 18 in 2012. The Study aims to investigate how a cumulative history of stress in the first two decades of life exacerbates individuals’ risk of poor mental and physical health in early adult life.
The successful candidate will be working throughout the UK and sometimes further afield. They must have a flexible schedule (including working during evenings and weekends) and be comfortable entering other people’s homes or conducting interviews in a King’s College London based laboratory. They must be either confident phlebotomists or be willing to be trained as such.
The successful candidate will visit Study participants’ homes, explain the Study, gain informed consent, conduct mental health interviews and further assessments, code interviews, ensure the integrity of the data at all times, and any other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the Project Leaders. The appointee will collect tissue samples including cheek swabs, whole bloods and blood drops for DNA analysis of inflammatory markers. Extensive training will be provided on all aspects of the Study.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the 2 Project Leaders. Study participants may live outside the London area thus data collection will involve considerable travel and occasional overnight stays.
The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills. They must have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. As such, outstanding planning and organisational abilities are essential. In addition, fastidious attention to detail, conscientiousness and orderliness are vital.
The post is available for 24 months. Salary will be £28,327 to £32,445 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance, depending on qualifications/experience.
