Postdoctoral Fellow in Social Science



Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow to be working with the NZ Sustainability Dashboard project based in the Centre for Sustainability at the University of Otago.

This position is attached to the New Zealand Sustainability Dashboard project (, a transdisciplinary project working with industries and aimed at developing technology to support and enhance sustainable transitions in . The project has been underway for four years, and the position will contribute to the final two years of the project.

This will be administratively based at the Centre for Sustainability, but will be supervised by Dr Katharine Legun and Hugh Campbell, and will be positioned within the team dedicated to examining social dynamics in the Dashboard and its elaboration.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must have completed the requirements for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or its equivalent.
  • Skills and research interests in sustainable agriculture or farming systems and social analysis.
  • Have a disciplinary background in history, sociology, or geography.
  • A strong interest in or issues in agriculture, food, rural society or Science and Technology Studies would be advantageous.

The appointee will be required to provide leadership in designing and undertaking research, to contribute social science insights into collaborative discussions, and will also be expected to take a strong role in the publication of research findings. The appointee will require a strong interest in transdisciplinary research.

This position will be based at the Centre for Sustainability at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. The University would strongly hope to have a candidate in position by May, 2017. The position is full-time and fixed-term for one year and there is a limited level of funding to support relocation to Dunedin.
